Moot Court basically means a replica of a real court where legal proceedings and trials take place and thus it is also known as a Mock Court. Moot Court is a form of an oral proceeding similar to that of a court proceeding, practiced mainly in institutions and universities where the law as a subject is taught to see how efficient a student is in fighting an argument based on law. It aims to provide a platform for students to inculcate and enhance advocacy skills.
The school has established Moot Court as a part of course curriculum in accordance with requirement of Bar Council of India. BCI requires that every student has to do at least three moot courts in a year. The moot court work will be on assigned problems and it will be evaluated with marks. “Moot Court†has been added as a subject to the curriculum of the students so that they get prepared and groomed in a proper manner as a lawyer before they complete their degree.
Moot Court Society at the School of Law, Justice and Governance is faculty and student- run organization dedicated for providing practical experience to law students in legal advocacy, research, writing and oral argumentation. The goal of the society is to foster critical thinking, legal analysis, and teamwork in the students by the means of simulated legal proceedings in a mock court setting.
The society hosts numerous competitions and events where teams argue on hypothetical cases before a panel of judges, majorly consisting of legal professionals, faculty members, or alumni. These cases are based on contemporary legal issues or the latest judgements and requires students to analyze legal statutes, precedents, and arguments from both sides of the case.
In preparation for these regular competitions, students work closely with their teammates and coaches to conduct extensive legal research, draft written briefs, and practice oral arguments.
Workshops, seminars, and other educational events are also organized to support students overall development and growth of legal skills and knowledge.
The School conducted National Moot Court Competition which was graced by Attorney General of India, Ld. R Venkataramani, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India. Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Judge, Supreme Court of India. Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jasmeet Singh, Judge, Delhi High Court, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Amit Bansal, Judge, Delhi High Court, Hon’ble Mr.Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, Judge, Delhi High Court and Senior Advocates (Designate) of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
